Simona Halep v Su-Wei Hsieh Head to Head
The head to head tally is currently tied at 1-1, with their previous meeting coming at the Wimbledon last year. Hsieh won that match on grass in three sets to prevent the Romanian from reaching the fourth round.
Halep Working Hard in Eastbourne
The Romanian has only one week to prepare for the coveted trophy at the SW19 and clearly, she isn’t afraid to push herself. She is participating in singles and doubles draw in Eastbourne, with her compatriot Raluca Olaru serving as her doubles partner.
On Sunday, the duo together defeated the opening pair of top-seeded Gabriela Dabrowski and Xu Yifan in straight sets. The win couldn’t be any more impressive as it came over the defending champions in doubles.
Meanwhile, Halep will play her first match on Tuesday.
The former World No. 1 just had a good run in the French Open, where she fell to Amanda Anisimova in the quarterfinal. That was among her many such performances this season as she continues to seek her first singles title. Most recently, she lost in the final in Rome to Kiki Bertens.
On the whole, Halep has had a run that most players strive to achieve but by her standards, it has been a season of learning and evolving.
Hsieh Starts on Wavy Note
In her first match in Eastbourne, Hsieh met Camila Giorgi of Italy as she didn’t get the pleasure of getting a bye into the next round. She had to fight for three sets but ultimately, she proved her mettle by upsetting Giorgi 6-3, 4-6, 6-4.
Hsieh is currently World No. 16 – a feat she accomplished after reaching the semifinal in Dubai and quarterfinal in Miami. These were also among her highlights of the season. She last played in Birmingham where she fell to Aryna Sabalenka – a result similar to the one she got in the French Open.
Halep v Hsieh Predictions & Tips
This will be a tricky one for the Romanian. Halep has already been bested by Hsieh on the grass at a place none other than the Wimbledon. Plus, Hsieh, known for her unpredictable shots and tight angles, is more than capable of putting up a good fight. She is persistent, patient, and clever. Halep needs to tackle this match with a new mindset and be on the lookout for Hsieh’s play.
Tip: Over 16.5 games in the match. (888Sport)
