Angelique Kerber v Simona Halep Head to Head
In the 10 times the two ladies have met so far on the WTA Tour, Halep holds a 6-4 lead over the German. The Romanian has won their last two meetings on the tour, with their most recent match taking place in the last year’s French Open.
They have met on grass only once and back then, it was Kerber who sailed to a comfortable victory.
Halep Benefiting from Doubles Momentum
Doing doubles duty has definitely helped Simona Halep get some control on grass before heading to the SW19. Playing in her only grass tournament before the Wimbledon, it is important for World No. 7 to get as much traction as possible.
Partnered with Raluca Olaru, the duo reached the semifinal in Eastbourne. Halep will be hoping to bring that same feat in the singles draw too.
She has had a decent run so far, barring an early scare in the third round. After dispatching Su-Wei Hsieh with 6-2, 6-0, she defeated Polona Hercog in three demanding sets to reach the quarterfinal.
It has been a pretty interesting season for Halep, that saw her experiment with different coaching styles while incurring slight losses in form. She is yet to win a title although, she has come close to one on many different occasions.
Kerber Enjoying a Good Run
While Halep had to fight Hercog for three sets in her last match, Kerber, by contrast, has had a much more comfortable run. Enjoying a seeded entry into the second round, she first moved past Samantha Stosur in straight sets and later, knocked out Rebecca Peterson 7-6(4), 6-0.
She reached the semifinal in Mallorca as well a couple of weeks back, where Kerber ultimately fell to Belinda Bencic but not before taking down Maria Sharapova and Caroline Garcia.
Kerber is a formidable opponent on grass, having made it to the final in Wimbledon on two occasions.
Kerber v Halep Predictions & Tips
This is one match that is too close to call. Both the players are strong, formidable, and highly experienced. Kerber may have the edge here, given her ability on the grass surface but expect that to not matter much soon, especially with Halep slowly finding her form.
Tip: Three sets in the match. (888Sport)
