Simona Halep v Aliaksandra Sasnovich Head to Head
This is the first meeting between the two players on the tour.
Halep Hoping for a Turnaround in Fortunes
The second half of the season is set to start from Monday and the Romanian No. 1 Simona Halep so far hasn’t had that exciting of a year.
She started the year as World No. 1 but on the back of nervy performances, changes in coaching team and a slight drop in form, she dropped to the 7th position in the singles ranking. Halep has reached the final twice this year – in Doha and Madrid but fell just short of winning the trophy.
In the meantime, she has delivered many impressive victories, most notably over the likes of Venus Williams, Elina Svitolina, Belinda Bencic, and Ashleigh Barty. At the same time, she has had her fair share of shocking defeats.
For instance, she lost to the 17-year-old American Amanda Anisimova in the quarterfinal of the French Open. As for her grass court preparations, she participated in the Eastbourne International where she played in singles and doubles draw.
In the first case, she fell to Angelique Kerber in the quarterfinal in straight sets while in the doubles, she lost in the semifinal with Raluca Olaru. Despite these results, Halep looks comfortable and happy with her chances in Wimbledon.
Sasnovich Looking to Inflict Some Damage
The Belarusian is coming into this fixture after four back-to-back first-round defeats. Her last tournament was in Eastbourne where she succumbed to Rebecca Peterson in the opener. The last time Sasnovich won a match was in the Madrid Open, where she made it to the third round.
Most of her season has been along the same lines. Her best performance came in the Sydney International, where she was a semifinalist. With a win-loss record of 14-12, her chances against Halep aren’t that great but that isn’t to say that she can’t win.
Halep v Sasnovich Predictions & Tips
Sasnovich reached the fourth round in the Wimbledon last year, starting with Petra Kvitova and then defeating the likes of Taylor Townsend and Daria Gavrilova. Obviously, she isn’t the type of player to give up easy and can very well make things troublesome for Halep.
The experience will be the key factor here and Halep will need to come out strong to keep her Belarusian adversary at bay. She knows that she isn’t entirely immune in her present form and will need to put in some effort to reach the second round. It may not be a clinical win for Halep.
