Pliskova, a Heavy Favourite at the SW19
Karolina Pliskova is coming into this fixture after winning the Premier-level event in Eastbourne on Saturday. That was her second such title on grass and she won it after defeating Angelique Kerber in the final. In fact, Pliskova won the tournament without dropping a single set, defeating the likes of Elise Mertens and Kiki Bertens with absolute ease.
Pliskova has now won 35 matches this season while losing just nine. With three titles in – one on each surface, she is undoubtedly in a phenomenal form presently. She was also a finalist in the Miami Open, losing to Ash Barty in the final.
In her wake, she has left quite an impressive trail of wins, defeating the likes of Garbine Muguruza, Serena Williams, Johanna Konta, Simona Halep, Kerber, Bertens, and many more. On the back of such a form, it is hard to imagine Pliskova succumbing to Zhu.
Zhu, in with Some Momentum
The 25-year-old Lin Zhu has spent the last couple of weeks playing in the ITF tournaments. She never made it past the second round in any of them although, all of them were on the grass surface and that has undoubtedly helped her gain some traction.
Zhu hasn’t been that consistent or phenomenal this season, seeing that she is currently ranked in the early 100s. The best she has done on the WTA circuit is reaching the second round in Dubai as a qualifier, after upsetting Elise Mertens.
She has mainly alternated between the ITF and WTA events with not a lot to show for.
Pliskova v Zhu Predictions & Tips
Expect this one to be an easy win for Pliskova. It wouldn’t be surprising if we see the Czech win without dropping more than six games.
