Roger Federer has left many a French fans disappointed after announcing his withdrawal from the Paris Masters that began earlier this week.
Federer, who recently won the Swiss Indoors title in Basel by beating Juan Martin del Potro in the final of that competition, opted out of the competition after suffering from fatigue-related issues.
The Wimbledon and Australian Open champion this year, Federer, had earlier said he would take a call on his participation in the Paris Masters at the end of his campaign in Basel. And once the dust had settled, Federer decided he wouldn’t be playing.

Speaking to the media, Federer said:
“My body is asking for a break. Basel takes a lot out of me emotionally. I had five matches in six days. I feel sorry and sad for Paris.”
“I love to play at Bercy, it’s a few times now that I’ve not played there. It’s a tough one but they have to understand that it’s for the cause of staying injury-free and healthy.
Federer also admitted a part of the reason was to do with the fact he wanted to be fully fresh for the ATP World Tour Finals later this year.
While the fans will be very disappointed with this decision, what that means for competitor Rafael Nadal is that he needs to win just his opening match at the Paris Masters to finish the year as the world number one player irrespective of the other results.

Nadal will take on Hyeon Chung in his second round match at the Paris Masters.
The Swiss maestro also admitted he had thought of the ranking issue but was candid enough to say he was too far back in the points race to have a realistic chance of finishing the year as the number one player. In turn, he said, he decided a break was much more important to avoid injury.
Federer last won the title in Paris in 2011 while Nadal’s best performance came in 2007 when he made the final.
