Elina Svitolina v Margarita Gasparyan Head to Head
The head to head tally is currently at 1-0 in favour of Gasparyan. The 24-year-old stunned Svitolina as recently as the WTA Birmingham a couple of weeks back.
Svitolina with a Strong Start
Determined to make amends for her disastrous spell on grass, the WTA Finals winner kick start her journey in London with a straight-set win against Daria Gavrilova. In a match that lasted for an hour and six minutes, Svitolina took the game 7-5, 6-0.
It was a much-needed win for the Ukrainian, whose grass season didn’t quite go according to the plan. She lost her opening matches in the two tournaments she played in, with the other defeat coming to Alize Cornet in Eastbourne.
Presently ranked at the eighth place, Svitolina hasn’t had a good run in quite some time now. Her clay season was a disappointment that culminated in a third-round defeat in French Open to Garbine Muguruza.
At the start of the year, the former Canadian Open champion had a much better time. She reached consecutive semifinals in Doha, Dubai, and Indian Wells, moving past some formidable names in the process.
Gasparyan, with a Psychological Edge
Having defeated Svitolina just a few weeks back on the grass, there is little doubt that Gasparyan will not fancy her chances once again against the Ukrainian. However, she will need to keep her recent form in mind.
The 24-year-old committed herself to grass court preparations, playing in ‘S-Hertogenbosch, Birmingham, and Eastbourne. In all the three places, she was knocked out in the second round.
Barring her semifinal run in Istanbul, these spells of early losses have pretty much highlighted most of her season. In London, she started her journey against Anna-Lena Friedsam, whom she knocked out 6-4, 6-4. It is worth stating that Friedsame committed twice as many unforced errors as Gasparyan.
Svitolina v Gasparyan Predictions & Tips
Against any other unseeded opponent at the same level as Margarita, Svitolina would have started as the favourite. However, the scenario here is a bit different, with the number 8 seed looking a bit vulnerable in the past few weeks. This will be a competitive affair that may very well go in Gasparyan’s favour.
