Novak Djokovic v Denis Kudla Head to Head
The two players have never met on the ATP circuit tour before.
Djokovic Wimbledon Campaign Gaining Momentum
World number one and defending champion Novak Djokovic began proceedings on Center Court at Wimbledon, against Philipp Kohlschreiber. Djokovic is in search for a 5th Wimbledon and a 16th Grand Slam title. The Serb played a fluent match, winning in straight sets. The match had its moments, but Djokovic never really looked out of control of the match. For an opening match at Wimbledon on Centre Court against a tricky opponent like Kohlschreiber, Djokovic will be very pleased with his performance and the outcome.
The Serb will have fond memories of winning th e Wimbledon title last year, which is where he announced his comeback, after a difficult two years, with indifferent form and injuries. Djokovic has since gone on to win the US Open and Australian Open and fell short in the French Open semi-finals.
Djokovic has not featured at any of the grass court events prior to Wimbledon, something that he did in both 2017 (Eastbourne) and 2018 (Queens Club). He has attributed this to feeling confident and in form this year around, ahead of the second half of the tennis calendar.
Kudla Hoping to Provide a Challenge to Djokovic
Ukrainian born American Denis Kudla has been on the ATP tour for most of this decade. Kudla has shown promise throughout his career, and with a big serve, backed up by a powerful forehand, has had some good results against higher ranked players, on the faster surfaces.
Kudla made the round of 16 at Wimbledon in 2015, around the same time that he was ranked in the top 50 in the world, which has been his highest ever ranking. He is currently ranked just within the top 100 on the circuit.
The American has not managed to produce consistent performances and results, and that has prevented him from being a greater force to reckon with on the tour. Kudla had a very convincing straight set win in the first round against Tunisian Malek Jaziri losing only eight games in the match.
Djokovic v Kudla Predictions & Tips
Kudla has been around on the circuit for a while and has seen some good results. The American’s best performance at a major has also been at Wimbledon. But, he is up against the defending champion and the number one player in the world, who more often than not has answers to most things on a tennis court. Expect another straight sets win for Djokovic.
Tip: Djokovic to win 3-0: 4/6 (888Sport)
