Alize Cornet v Tamara Korpatsch Head to Head
This is their first meeting on the WTA Tour.
Cornet Looking Confident in Lausanne
The 29-year-old Frenchwoman has delivered what has been one of the better performances by her this season. In a year that saw her battle with form and inconsistencies for most of the time, this semifinal run definitely comes as a breath of fresh air.
Seeking her first singles title since the 2018 WTA Gstaad, the closest Cornet came to upping that feat was in Hobart earlier this year. There too, she made it to the semifinal before succumbing to Sofia Kenin.
Following that, she incurred a series of early losses that saw her move in and out of the top 50. It wasn’t until the WTA Eastbourne – well past the clay swing – that Cornet broke the jinx and made it to the penultimate rounds once again. But then, the best she could do was reach the quarterfinal.
In Lausanne, things have been different for her. Since the beginning, she has looked quite confident as she easily dispatched Martina Trevisan and Jasmine Polini in straight sets. In the third round, she staged a comeback against Natalia Vikhlyantseva to seal a place in the semis.
Korpatsch, with a Memorable Performance
The 24-year-old Korpatsch made her debut on the WTA Tour just three years ago. Currently ranked at the 142nd position, the German has struggled a lot with her form this season, slipping further in the rankings.
The combination of ITF-WTA events hasn’t particularly done the trick for Tamara, whose best showing before this came in Prague, where she was a quarterfinalist.
As for her performance in Lausanne, she started with a three-set win over Eugenie Bouchard. Propelled by that confidence, she moved on to knock out Anastasia Potapova and Jil Teichmann in three sets with rather commanding wins.
Alize Cornet v Tamara Korpatsch Predictions & Tips
Cornet will start this match as the favourite, undoubtedly. Tamara lacks the experience of playing against a more refined player, but at the same time, Cornet isn’t among the strongest player in the field. With the right mindset and some confidence, she can very well make things precarious for the Frenchwoman and pick it up from there.
Tip: Over 16.5 games in the match. (888Sport)
