Anastasija Sevastova v Dalila Jakupovic Head to Head
The two ladies have met only once on the WTA Tour, back in the 2018 Bucharest Open. Sevastova was pushed to three sets, but ultimately won that encounter.
Sevastova Starts Easy
In the opening round, Anastasija Sevastova met the Russian Varvara Flink and dispatched her comfortably with 6-2, 6-1, marking a solid start to the competition. The 2018 US Open semifinalist is a heavy favourite in Jurmala and will be eager to cap that performance with a winning run through this week.
But given her recent form, things won’t be easy for her. Sevastova has been suffering from a lack of consistency for most of the year, including the recent events in the Wimbledon and Bucharest. The best she has done is reaching the fourth round in Mallorca and the Roland Garros.
The Latvian is seeking her first singles final since the China Open last season – a run that propelled her close to the top 10. Currently ranked as World No. 11, Sevastova has managed to stay close enough to crack the code but as the season enters its final leg, she will need to up her game.
Jakupovic with a Solid Win
The 28-year Jakupovic started her journey in the Baltic Open with a comfortable win over Ana Bogdan. That win marked her first WTA win on the circuit since the WTA Monterrey earlier this season.
Since then, the Slovenian has lost all of her first round matches, including the ones in Birmingham, Wimbledon, and Bucharest. Currently ranked in the late 140s, Jakupovic holds a win-loss record of 8-19, courtesy of her few wins here and there from the qualifiers and ITF events.
She is yet to win a singles title on the tour, let alone reach a final.
Sevastova v Jakupovic Prediction and Tips
This one should result in an easy win for Sevastova. Given her form and momentum, it shouldn’t be difficult for her to dispatch someone as in out of form as Jakupovic.
Tip: Under 16.5 games in the match. (888Sport)
