Former Finalist Isner Getting Back into Groove
An injury had threatened to derail his season but Isner has come back reasonably well in the three tournaments he has played since then. At Wimbledon, there was a second round exit but he went on to win the title at Newport, winning three of those four matches in tough three-setters.
While there was an early exit at Atlanta at his first hard-court competition since his return, Isner will take heart from the way he performed at Miami where he also got injured earlier this year. He made it to the final without dropping a set and while he went down to Roger Federer in the title-decider, the American showed a lot of determination through his fitness problem in that encounter too.
Isner has been a former finalist in Washington, getting there in 2007, 2013 and 2015, but losses to Andy Roddick, Juan Martin del Potro and Kei Nishikori put paid to his chances. Can he push on further this time?

Currently ranked 44th in the world, Hurkacz’s season has been a mixed bag so far. He touched his best ranking of 41st a couple of months ago and has managed to remain around that much since after having begun the year ranked 88th on the ATP charts.
Interestingly, much like his opponent in this encounter, Isner, the Pole’s best showing of the season also came at the Sunshine Masters – Indian Wells for him – when he reached the quarter-final stage. Like Isner, it took a straight-set win for Federer to snuff out his challenge as well.
Hurkacz will be looking to better his showing from the previous year where he had reached the second round too, losing to Fraces Tiafoe in the process. The Polish player is coming off a 6-1, 6-4 win over Donald Young in his opener.

Isner might start off a favourite but he won’t have it easy by any stretch. He can be expected to win with at least one tie-breaker in the offing given how most of his matches go into the tie-breaker in at least one of the sets which is why we are looking at a handicap bet here.
