Angelique Kerber v Daria Kasatkina Head to Head
The head-to-head tally is currently in the favour of German although, she leads by a slim margin of 4-3. She has won their last two meetings, both of which took place on the grass courts last season.
A Series of Losses for Kasatkina
Kasatkina, who just last year was getting close to breaking into the top 10, has not only slipped out of the scene but is also going through a rough patch in terms of her form.
With Kremlin Cup being her last singles title, she has been struggling a lot since then to repeat a feat like that again. This year so far, she has won just six matches while losing an astounding 14 in the process. Needless to mention, a lot of these losses have come in the early stages of the tournament itself.
To put things in perspective, the best run of her season came in St. Petersburg, where she reached the third round. Just last week, she played in San Jose where she made it as far as round two before falling to Elina Svitolina.
Kerber, Looking for a Revival
Just like Kasatkina, Kerber too has fallen out of the top 10 although, her form problems aren’t as drastic. She has had a couple of exciting runs already this year – most notably her runs to the final in Indian Wells and Eastbourne.
In fact, she was a part of the top five for the longest time before moving down to No. 13 position. That drop after her abysmal performance in Wimbledon, where she fell to Lauren Davis in the second round.
Now that the 31-year-old is well-rested, it will be interesting to see how she fares in Toronto this time around. Through the years, the best Kerber has done here is reaching the semifinal in the 2016 edition. This time around, she will need to bring her A-game, considering the field she is in.
Kerber v Kasatkina Prediction & Tips
We can expect the German to wrap this one in straight sets. As talented as Kasatkina may be, it will be hard for her to find her rhythm against an experienced player like Kerber in the Canadian Open.
Tip: Under 16.5 games in the match. (888Sport)
