Johanna Konta v Dayana Yastremska Head to Head

Their only previous meeting came at Eastbourne earlier this year and saw Konta break into no sweat at all, winning that first round encounter 6-2, 6-4. This is a different surface though.

Konta Opens Post-Wimbledon Campaign

Great Britain’s Johanna Konta has had a remarkable run in the second part of this season, having made the quarter-final at Wimbledon and the semi-final at the French Open – one of only two women’s singles players to have made it as far as the quarter-finals at both these majors.

Konta would have backed herself to go one better at Wimbledon, but a surprise loss at the hands of Barbora Strycova meant she will have to be content with a personal second-best showing at that Slam.

And while Konta hasn’t won a single title this year despite making it to the final at Rome and Rabat, one can sense she is getting closer. Not that her performance on hard courts has been extraordinary this year but she would be hoping to recapture the form she had shown on this surface before 2018.

Yastremska Inching Towards Top 30

19-year-old Yastremska is in the form of her life having won three WTA titles in a span of less than nine months. The Ukrainian ended the previous season with a win at the Hong Kong Open and has now followed it up with title victories at Hua Hin Open and the WTA Strasbourg, competitions played on hard court and clay respectively.

A solid showing at Wimbledon helped her to a fourth round finish on grass, ensuring she is not a one-trick pony and she will now resume her hard court swing in the lead-up to the final Grand Slam of the year with a lot of confidence. Ranked 34th in the world, and having not played at the Rogers Cup last year because she was outside the top 100 on the WTA Rankings, Yastremska will now look to add more ranking points and try and move into the top 30.

Johanna Konta v Dayana Yastremska Prediction & Tips

While Konta begins as favourite in this one, it would be foolhardy to ignore her opponent in this one. Both are in good form and can be expected to push this into the third set.

Tip: Three sets in the match: 7/4 (888Sport)
