Alexander Zverev v Nikoloz Basilashvili Head to Head
Zverev and Basilashvili are currently tied at 1-1 in main-draw matches in their head-to-head. The German leads overall taking into consideration qualifiers after triumphing in Marseille in 2015.
Basilashvili though won the most recent encounter in Hamburg where he saved multiple match-points in the semifinals.
Can Zverev Repeat 2017 Exploits?
Alexander Zverev begun his Rogers Cup campaign with a hard-fought 7-6 6-4 win over Great Britain’s Cameron Norrie. The German who won the 2017 edition when the tournament was last staged in Montreal has endured a sub-par season, with his lone title in 2019 coming at the 250 event in Geneva.
Zverev’s alarming dip in form has been partly affected by his tumultuous relationship with former coach Ivan Lendl. The news of their split emerged during the German Open in Hamburg where the 22-year-old played his best tennis since his title success at Swiss Open.
He held two match-points and then proceeded to squander a 5-2 lead in the final set tiebreak in his defeat to Basilashvili in Hamburg. His decision to skip the Citi Open in Washington last week has come at a hefty price since he was the defending champion. It cost him a few more points and has now pulled to World No.7, which is his lowest ranking since August 2017.
Basilashvili Saved Two MPs In His Last Outing Against Zverev
Number 13 seed Nikoloz Basilashvili stunned Alexander Zverev in their recent meeting in Hamburg after saving a couple of match-points and fought back from the brink in the final set tiebreak to win in three pulsating sets. That victory set the tone for Basilashvili’s coronation as he went on to beat Andrey Rublev in the German Open final and successfully defend his title.
Basilashvili is only 22-16 for the season in what has been a largely disappointing opening half of 2019. However, his week in Germany seems to have reignited his season as he came through two tricky opposition on his way to the third round.
The Georgian saw off the occasionally dangerous Dusan Lajovic in the first round before taking out big hitting German Jan-Lennard Struff, coming from a set down in both matches.
Zverev v Basilashvili Predictions & Tips
Zverev is starting as a huge favorite at 4/9 which does not represent huge value considering the opposition across the net. The German played way too passively in Hamburg and Basilashvili does tend to turn it on when his back is against the wall. The Georgian is on a seven-match winning streak and has carries with him confidence and momentum in this match.
Tip: Basilashvili to win: 7/4 (888Sport)
