Roberto Bautista-Agut v Frances Tiafoe Head to Head
The pair have never met before. This will be the first match between the 31-year old Spaniard, and the American, a decade younger than him.
Bautista-Agut Continues to Soar
Bautista-Agut’s current world ranking of 11 is an all-time high for the Spaniard, and has been achieved after a string of impressive results this year, culminating in his surprising run to the semi-finals at Wimbledon.
He began the year by clinching his ninth ATP career title in Doha, and then was a quarter-finalist in Melbourne before losing to Stefanos Tsitsipas. Since then he reached the semi-final in Munich, and has made the last eight of two Masters events – in Miami and again in Montreal last week.
His best showing at the US Open came last year when he made the fourth round, and he may be a dark horse to do well again this year at Flushing Meadow,
Hubert Hurkacz of Poland represented a potentially dangerous first round opponent here, but he dealt with his challenge comfortably enough on Tuesday, clinching the first set on a tie-break, and then easing away in the second, converting three of the four break points he secured.

Tiafoe Snaps Losing Streak by Beating Monfils
The man who won his first, and, to date, only ATP career title at Delray Beach last year, has struggled to build on that promise this year, and he has lost his status as the number two ranked American player to Taylor Fritz.
The year started well enough though – he got to the quarter-final in Melbourne before losing to Rafael Nadal, and followed that up with two more quarter-final appearances in Miami and Estoril.
Since then, his results have dropped off dramatically, and he had lost five of his last six singles matches coming into this tournament..
That made his straight-sets’ win over the experienced and battle-hardened Gael Monfils on Tuesday all the more welcome, and he will hoping that is a portent of better things to come.
Bautista-Agut v Tiafoe Predictions & Tips
Bautista-Agut is the clear favourite to win this match at 5/8, whilst Tiafoe is priced at 5/2. Tiafoe will have the home fans on his side, and has the confidence of having finally broken his losing sequence, but Bautista-Agut has become a very consistent performer in the big tournaments, and should win comfortably.
Tip: Bautista-Agut to win in straight sets: 4/5 (888Sport)
