David Goffin v Guido Pella Head to Head
The two players have met four times on tour and Goffin leads 3-1. They met on grass in Halle last month which was won by Goffin, and then Pella was victorious in Montreal last week.
Goffin Continuing Comeback Trail
David Goffin was ranked 7th in the world after being a finalist at the ATP year end finals in London in 2017, a tournament where he beat both Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal.
2018 and 2019 for Goffin has been a mix of recurring injuries, time off from the game and disappointing early losses at tournaments, resulting in his ranking falling to number 30 earlier this year.
Goffin is in the process of resurging his career post injuries in search of more consistent results. He was a finalist at the ATP 500 grass court tournament at Halle, losing to Roger Federer. At Wimbledon, he won a marathon fiver setter against Russian Daniil Medvedev in the third round after trailing two sets to one, before losing to eventual champion and world number one Novak Djokovic in the quarter-finals.
The Belgian has moved up to number 18 in the rankings as a result of improved performances in recent times. An offensive baseliner with strong groundstrokes off both wings, a good return of serve and a solid double handed backhand, Goffin will be looking for some good performances on the US hard courts.
The former world number seven had a hard fought three set win against rising American sensation Taylor Fritz in the first round here in Cincinnati.

Pella in Midst of Best Run of Career
Argentine Guido Pella is in the midst of a very good year, that has seen him break into the top 30 of the ATP rankings. He has had successful runs on the ATP tour, predominantly on clay during the South American clay swing, as well as the European clay court season.
Pella is a baseliner who has a game that is very well suited to the slower surfaces. However, gritty performances on the grass courts at Wimbledon saw him qualify for the quarter-finals of a major for the first time defeating Milos Raonic and Kevin Anderson, both former Wimbledon finalists.
The Argentine had a first round win here in Cincinnati defeating upcoming star from Norway, Casper Ruud in two tight sets.
Goffin v Pella Predictions & Tips
The two players have already met twice in less than two months and split their fortunes. More importantly, they met last week in Montreal on the outdoor hard courts and Pella scored a convincing win.
There is a similarity in the playing style of both players with regards to their grit and their ability to hang in. While Goffin maybe better suited to faster surfaces than Pella is, the Argentine has shown how his resolve has assisted him on the faster grass and hard courts.
Expect a match of strong rallies with no obvious favorite and the winner being the one who can wear the other down first.
A three set match on the cards, with the experience of Goffin edging out Pella this time around.
Tip: Goffin to win in three sets: 13/4 (888Sport)
