Caroline Wozniacki v Wang Yafan Head to Head

Wozniacki and Yafan have featured in one match against each other way back in 2015 at the Kuala Lumpur Open and surely enough the Dane won that encounter in straight sets.

Underwhelming Year for Caroline Wozniacki Sees Her Fall to 19th

Wozniacki had started off the season ranked third in the world, having won the Australian Open last year but the form has tapered off. A third round loss at the hands of Maria Sharapova at the year’s first major meant she dropped a plethora of points there and that was followed by a 2-2 win-loss record at the Sunshine Masters.

The Dane looked like she was regaining some of form from the previous year when she made the final at Charleston Open where she eventually lost to Madison Keys. However, any hope of a resurrection immediately vanished as she crashed out in the round one at Madrid and Rome, and then had no better luck at Roland-Garros.

A third round defeat at Wimbledon and two losses in three matches in Toronto and Cincinnati don’t just leave Wozniacki with form issues – the lack of matches might also leave her rusty.

Currently hovering around her career-best ranking of 49th in the world, Yafan had earlier this year won her first career WTA title. That came at Acapulco and included wins over Donna Vekic and Sofia Kenin, and that was followed by a fourth round appearance in Miami.

The trouble for the Chinese player came on clay where she participated in five tournaments including the French Open and lost her openers at each one of them. A quarter-final at Mallorca helped, but what those early losses earlier meant she needed to go through the qualifiers in Cincinnati to make the main.

Yafan did just that and then defeated Monica Puig but lost in straight sets to Karolina Pliskova in the second. Can she pull a rabbit out of the hat in this?

Wozniacki v Yafan Predictions & Tips

Well, speaking of pulling rabbits out of the hat, there is every chance that Yafan will push the Dane and even win a set. Will she be able to go the distance? Wozniacki’s superior pedigree and experience should see her opponent but in three sets.

Tip: Wozniacki to win 2-1: 3/1 (888Sport)
