With second seeded Rafael Nadal having been clinical in his disposing of John Millman in his first round match, he will lead the men’s singles action on day four of the 2019 US Open. The Spaniard takes on another Aussie, Thanasi Kokkinakis in the second round and by the looks of things this could be another one-sided match in favour of Nadal.

However, with Dominic Thiem and Stefanos Tsitsipas already knocked out of the competition in round one, it will be Alexander Zverev who will now enjoy an open draw as he tries to make it to the semi-final as well. He will be in action on Thursday as he plays Frances Tiafoe in round two.

Andrey Rublev, unseeded in the tournament, but one of the players to watch out after having knocked Tsitsipas out, will be joined by Nick Kyrgios, Marin Cilic and John Isner as some of the other men’s singles players in the second round. All of these players will take to court on Thursday.

In the women’s section of the draw, top seeded Naomi Osaka will look to put her slow start behind her as she faces Magda Linette in the second round. Fourth seeded Simona Halep was also taken to three sets in her opener and she now plays another American in round in the form of Taylor Townsend on Thursday.

Seventh seeded Kiki Bertens will be up against Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova, while ninth seeded Aryna Sabalenka plays Yulia Putintseva in other round two action on August 29.

Also taking to court will be Caroline Wozniacki, Petra Kvitova and Donna Vekic as they look to cement their place in the third round.

Some of the second round matches from Wednesday will be carried over to today as well, what with rain having caused a lot of issues on August 28. Johanna Konta, the 16th seed Brit, will take on Margarita Gasparyan while fifth seeded Daniil Medvedev plays Hugo Dellien in their respective second round matches.

Qiang Wang, Stan Wawrinka, Cristian Garin, Kristina Mladenovic, Sofia Kenin, Maria Sakkari, David Goffin, Dusan Lajovic, Anastasia Sevastova and Lucas Pouille will be among those in action today after their matches were washed out on Wednesday.
