Aryna Sabalenka v Yulia Putintseva Head to Head

This is the first meeting between the two players on the tour.

Putintseva with a Serious Threat

The 24-year-old Russian Yulia Putintseva has had a season to be proud of, having won the maiden singles title of her career in Nuremberg. With a strike rate of 23-18, she has been less than clinical although, she has the skillset to become a top player.

Despite a litany of opening rounds losses in her last five outings, three of which came at the hands of top 10 players, Putintseva has done well to stay within the top 50. After a very slow, disappointing start to the season, the Kazakh picked up some pace but still has a long way to go.

What makes her particularly interesting is that she has delivered a few brilliant results too, most notably defeating Naomi Osaka – World No. 1, on two distinct occasions. Her start in the US Open was nothing short of an equally mesmerizing performance, where she defeated Madison Brengle in straight sets.

Sabalenka with a lot of Fire

The 21-year-old Sabalenka had a brilliant start in the Flushing Meadows, where she knocked out former World No. 1, her compatriot Victoria Azarenka in three demanding sets. In a classic battle between experienced players and fresh guns, Sabalenka staked her claim as a top 10 player and sent out a strong message.

Battling with bouts of inconsistencies and form loss, the Wuhan Open champion recently reached the final in San Jose, losing to Saisai Zheng in the final. But on the path to that tournament, Sabalenka lost the opening rounds in four previous tournaments.

Even in the Rogers Cup and Cincinnati Open, she had a disappointing run with rather early exits. Nonetheless, if we are to consider her form, on the whole, the number 9 seed comes out on the top with flying colours. She won the Shenzhen Open at the start of the year and followed it with some good results in St. Petersburg and Strasbourg.

Sabalenka v Putintseva Predictions & Tips

While Sabalenka will start this match as the favourite to win, the odds may shift away from her over the course of the game. Putintseva is a strong player although, she is yet to fully develop that ability to play with finesse and confidence. Nonetheless, she can put up a good fight here and give the Belarusian a run for her money.

Tip: Over 20.5 games in the match. (888Sport)
