Stan Wawrinka v Paolo Lorenzi Preview & Tips:
This will be the fourth meeting between Wawrinka and Lorenzi and the Swiss player has won all three times. In fact, Lorenzi is yet to win a set against Wawrinka, having played him on all three surfaces – at Buenos Aires on clay, ‘s-Hertogenbosch on grass and Indian Wells on hard court. Truth be told, a lot has changed for both players but more so for Wawrinak since their last meeting in 2017, which makes the previous results slightly redundant.
That said, Wawrinka’s gradual rise back in the ranking is commendable, as has been his twin wins in the tournament so far – having beaten Sinner and Chardy in four sets apiece. And while we are expecting Lorenzi to finally break his duck and win his first set against Wawrinka, the match should still go in favour of the Swiss.
37-year-old Lorenzi has done well to reach the third round but this is where his journey can be expected to end.
Wawrinka v Lorenzi Prediction: Four sets in the match: 3/1 (888Sport)
Kei Nishikori v Alex de Minaur Preview & Tips:
It’s a match-up between the experience of Nishikori, who is ranked seventh in the world right now but was fourth at one stage of his career. Nishikori has also made it as far as the final of the US Open so clearly this is a surface he loves playing on.
Up against him is Alex de Minaur, one of three remaining Aussies in the men’s singles main draw and the 20-year-old is ranked 38th in the world. De Minaur has had a middling sort of a year but tell you what, don’t discount him on hard court surfaces, with the Aussie having won two titles on that surface this year.
In fact, de Minaur is coming off a win in Atlanta last month too and we might be in for a solid ride in this one, in what will be his first meeting with Nishikori.
Nishikori v De Minaur Prediction: Games Handicap Alex di Minaur +4: 10/11 (888Sport)
Grigor Dimitrov v Kamil Majchrzak Preview & Tips:
In what is a clash between two players ranked outside the top 75, this is a golden chance to make it as far as the fourth round of a Grand Slam and as a result gain some ranking points and a lot of confidence. Dimitrov’s poor run in the sport has now extended to a couple of years which is why a win here will be very important for him in more ways than one.
For a player who had won four titles in 2017, he is yet to win a single one since then. And while he might not really test some of the bigger players just yet, the confidence of making it to the fourth round will come handy. He had won the first round against Andreas Seppi before his second round opponent Borna Coric withdrew from the tournament.
Majchrzak has been playing Challengers and qualifiers all year and not got past the first round in any of the main ATP competitions before this. A win looks unlikely, but this could be a good time to earn brownie points by pushing Dimitrov into a corner.
Dimitrov v Majchrzak Prediction: Dimitrov in four sets: 27/10 (888Sport)
