Roger Federer finally found his bearings at the 2019 US Open as he strolled into the fourth round with a straight-set win over Britain’s Dan Evans on Friday.

After back to back matches at Flushing Meadows in which Federer dropped a set, he steamrolled Evans 6-2, 6-2, 6-1 in 80 minutes to seal his fourth round spot. And he admitted in his interview later he was expecting a better fight from Evans.
The Swiss world number three took control of the match early in the first set when he held three break-points in the fourth game and while he didn’t convert them, Federer looked more convincing than he has this tournament. The break of serve came in the very next game from there on, there was no looking back.
A second break of serve won Federer the set and with the confidence back, he had an even easier time over the next two sets. He took the second set in 27 minutes as a frustrated Evans smashed his racquet and earned himself a code violation before racing off to an early break of serve in the third as well.

Evans broke back once but that was the last game he would win in the game as Federer romped through to a flawless performance. He will now take on the winner of the third round match between David Goffin and Pablo Carreno Busta later in the day.
In another third round match in the day, women’s third seeded Karolina Pliskova looked knackered by the end but went on to clinch her match against Ons Jabeur in three sets. She won 6-1, 4-6, 6-4 and will now play one of Johanna Konta or Shuai Zhang in round four.
Kei Nishikori, seeded seventh was shocked by Australia’s Alex de Minaur in another third round match. De Minaur, who was coming into the tournament with a win at Atlanta under his belt, raced through the first two sets before dropping the third. He completed the victory in the fourth, winning 6-2, 6-4, 2-6, 6-3 to register his best US Open result.
