Roger Federer v David Goffin Head to Head
The two players have met nine times on tour and Federer leads the head-to-head, 8-1.
Goffin’s only win came in the semi-finals of the 2017 year end ATP Tour Finals in London. The two players met as recently as earlier this year at the Halle ATP 500 finals on grass which Federer won in straight sets.
Federer Picks Up Momentum Heading Into Week Two
Number three seed Roger Federer scored a convincing third round win against Dan Evans of Great Britain winning 6-2, 6-2, 6-1 in a quick match on Arthur Ashe Stadium.
After difficult opening sets in the previous two rounds, the Swiss was considerably pleased with his form and movement against Evans. Interestingly, what seemed to have gotten his goat was repeated questions around the scheduling, with suggestions that Federer gets things his own way when it came to the order of play.
The Swiss maestro didn’t quite deny he had requested for a particular schedule but said it wasn’t as straightforward as him getting what he wanted every time.
Federer is a five-time US champion between 2004-2008, but has not won a title at US Open since.

Goffin On Comeback Trail Getting Stronger
Belgian David Goffin was ranked number seven in the world in 2017, after he beat Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal to qualify for the finals of the ATP Tour Finals in London, which he lost to Grigor Dimitrov.
What followed was a spate of injuries for the Belgian throughout 2018, in what was a disappointing year for him and saw his ranking fall out of the top 30.
Goffin has fought his way back being a finalist at both the ATP 500 on the grass courts of Halle as well, as at the ATP Masters 1000 in Cincinnati.
A gritty counterpuncher, Goffin is strong from the baseline and capable of impressive shotmaking on both wings.
He has been impressive at the US Open thus far, most importantly with a hard-fought straight sets win against 2017 US Open semi-finalist Pablo Carreno Busta.
Roger Federer v David Goffin Predictions & Tips
The two players have been practice partners for a while and know each others games well.
Federer seems to have brushed off most of the rust from the early rounds here and Goffin seems to be in the midst of a strong outing. Except some great rallies, with an aggressive fighter like Goffin not one to give up easily,
Despite a strong Goffin performance on the cards, this looks like a four-set win for the Swiss.
Tip: Federer to win in four sets: 3/1 (888Sport)
