Roger Federer v David Goffin Preview & Tips:

On paper this should end up like most of their previous encounters, in favour of Federer. Yes, they have already played a few times – nine to be precise – and Federer and won on all but one occasion. Goffin’s only win came at the ATP World Tour Finals in 2017, but with the Swiss world number three having dominated him everywhere else, it’s hard to see any other result for this one either.

Unless, obviously, Federer retreats back to that lack of rhythm he had in the first sets of the first two rounds – dropped those sets to Sumit Nagal and Damir Dzumhur before coming back to win those matches. He was far better in his third round encounter against Dan Evans but Goffin is ranked higher and could push Federer a tad more than the Briton.

And yet, we reckon we are looking at a straight-set win for the multiple-time Grand Slam winner.

Federer v Goffin Prediction: Under 36.5 games in the match: 10/11 (888Sport)

Serena Williams v Petra Martic Preview & Tips:

Barring a small blip against Caty McNally in the second round where Serena Williams dropped a set, it has been a routine, clinical performance so far for her. There was a 6-1, 6-1 win over Maria Sharapova, and she then sent Karolina Muchova packing in another straight-set victory.

Williams has never played Martic before, so the big question is whether the Croat can use that to her advantage and surprise the former world number one early in the first set. Because once Williams finds her bearings, it could end up being another straight-set win.

Martic is essentially a clay-courter and has already outperformed her previous best at the Flushing Meadows – a first round exit last two years. But a third round appearance would now remain her new US Open best because the possibility of going past Serena looks difficult.

Serena v Martic Prediction: Serena to win in straight sets: 4/7 (888Sport)

Novak Djokovic v Stan Wawrinka Preview & Tips:

If Wawrinka can somehow conjure his old, pre-injury self, then this could have some makings of a fight. If not, Djokovic coul well stomp all over Wawrinka and run away in three sets to set up a quarter-final place.

Because even with his shoulder injury, Djokovic found his rhythm and blitzed past Juan Londero in the second round. And when there were questions still being asked of his fitness, he registered a 6-3, 6-4, 6-2 win over Denis Kudla in the third.

This is not to say that Wawrinka is anything like what Djokovic would have encountered so far this competition, because, after all, the Swiss world number 24 has beaten the Serb five times in his career. The last of these wins also came in their last encounter, way back in the 2016 US Open final, where Wawrinka lifted the trophy with a four-set victory over Djokovic. We give this to have more than three sets.

Djokovic v Wawrinka Prediction: Four sets or five sets in the match: 2/1 or 4/1 (888Sport)

Ashleigh Barty v Qiang Wang Preview & Tips:

Barty and Wang have already played each other twice and the Aussie has won both times without dropping a set. And both those matches came last year as  well.

After a first round surprise of having dropped a set to Zarina Diyas, Barty’s gone about her business like a Grand Slam winner would, defeating Lauren Davis and Maria Sakkari in straight sets. Wang, on the other hand, is yet to drop a set but has been lucky with her draw, having faced no real big-ticket player.

This will see Barty steamroll her opponent with ease again, winning in straight sets to set up a potential quarter-final with Serena.

Barty v Wang Prediction: Barty to win in straight sets: 8/11 (888Sport)
