A total of eight singles fourth round matches will be played on Sunday, across the two sections of the draw. Kick-starting the day’s play will be the third seeded Roger Federer who faces the Belgian challenge of David Goffin. This is a match-up that has already happened once previously this year and on paper, should have been Federer’s first real test.

However, Federer has already seen two four-setters, in his first two rounds against Sumit Nagal and Damir Dzumhur, before he finally found his bearings and crushed Dan Evans in the third. Can he bring his A game to the table and ensure there are no more hiccups before he plays the potential big one against Novak Djokovic?

Speaking of whom, Djokovic could have his first tricky match of the competition late in the evening when he faces Stan Wawrinka. Wawrinka is one of those players from outside the Big Three, who has troubled Djokovic in the past and while he had fallen off the rankings because of his injury, he looks like the lost mojo is returning.

Eighth seeded Serena Williams has dropped a set in the competition but she is another player who has a steely look about her this time around. With a record Grand Slam haul in the offing if she wins this one, Serena’s first task now will be to take out Petra Martic, the 22nd seed, in her next match later today.

The other match on Arthur Ashe has the fifth seeded Elina Svitolina facing the 10th seeded Madison Keys with the winner potentially taking on Serena in the quarter-finals.

Ash Barty, seeded second, will be on Louis Armstrong Court as the first in action, as she plays China’s Qiang Wang, while third seeded Karolina Pliskova faces Britain’s Johanna Konta. The other men’s singles matches in the day will see the fifth seeded Daniil Medvedev play Dominik Koepfer and Grigor Dimitrov take on Alex de Minaur.
