Kiki Bertens v Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova Head to Head
Bertens leads the Russian by 5-2 and has defeated her twice in their last three meetings. All of these matches took place this season, with their most recent encounter coming in the second round of the US Open. Bertens prevailed in straight sets in that one, thus avenging her loss to Pavlyuchenkova in the same round back in the Australian Open at the start of the year.
Bertens, Slowly Losing Momentum?
After having a season that can only be described as breathtaking – winning the titles in St. Petersburg and Madrid, and later reaching the final in the Libema Open and Palermo Open, it now appears that Kiki Bertens is on a path to burnout.
At the moment, her win-loss tally stands at 43-19 – a figure she achieved after reaching the penultimate rounds in a majority of the tournaments in the first half of the season. But when the US Open series began, she failed to replicate that kind of form.
With early exits in Toronto, Cincinnati, and New York, she entered the Asian swing hoping for some reprieve. Playing in the Zhengzhou Open last week, she was handed a shock defeat by Ajla Tomljanovic in the opener in straight sets.
In May, Bertens was a part of the top five and now, she is World No. 8. Even though the drop isn’t that significant, her chances to qualify for the WTA Finals are still hanging in the balance and the coming weeks will be decisive in that. Right now, she has enjoyed a bye into the second round in Osaka.

Pavlyuchenkova, Hoping for a Comeback
Pavlyuchenkova has had a pretty dull season so far, with not a lot to show for. With early exits in a majority of the competitions she has featured in, the Russian has been battling with inconsistencies. Case in point, she has won only two matches in her last five outings on the tour.
In Osaka, however, she put up a commanding performance against Dayana Yastremska in the opener, whom she defeated 6-3, 6-1. It was a tough match for Anastasia, as she later said at the post-match conference. Nonetheless, that win has certainly sparked the hopes of a resurgence.
Bertens v Pavlyuchenkova Tips & Predictions
The two players are highly experienced and have got the necessary skills needed to win here. Despite their recent slump in the form, this will be a highly competitive affair with both the ladies eager to prove something here. Bertens will have the edge here, owing to her overall form and a higher ranking but Pavlyuchenkova can very well negate that.
Tip: Over 21.5 games in the match:9/10 (888Sport)
