David Goffin v Pablo Carreno Busta Head to Head
The pair have played each other twice, with each player having won one match apiece. Carreno Busta won on the clay of Oeiras in Portugal in 2013, but, just last month, Goffin beat the Spaniard in straight sets in the third round of the US Open.
Welcome Re-discovery of Form for Goffin
Goffin, after several years of indifferent performances during which he struggled for consistency, and slipped down the rankings outside the world’s top twenty, has enjoyed something of a return to form this year. Although he has not added to his total of 4 senior ATP career titles, he has been in two finals.
He lost to Roger Federer in Halle, and, having reached the first Masters final of his career, he was beaten by Daniil Medvedev in Cincinnati.
He also got to the quarter-finals in Wimbledon, but succumbed to the eventual winner of the event, NovaK Djokovic.
His last tournament was the US Open where, seeded 15, he successfully navigated the first three rounds, only to come up against Federer again who was at his imperious best.

Carreno Busta, Suffering a Negative Career Trajectory
28-year-old Carreno Busta is a former top ten player who, as recently as 2017, was a semi-finalist at the US Open, the same year he got to the quarter finals at Roland Garros. 2017 was also the year that he won the last of his three ATP career titles, at Estoril in Portugal.
His form since then though has been indifferent, and he began this tournament down at 62 in the world rankings.
He did reach the fourth round at Melbourne earlier this year though, before losing to Kei Nishikori of Japan in a bad-tempered match. But apart from that, his best performance came in Hamburg where he reached the semi-final, only to suffer defeat at the hands of the Russian Andrey Rublev.
However, he cruised into the second round here, beating Julian Lenz of Germany on Tuesday in straight sets, conceding just two games in the process.
Goffin v Carreno Busta Predictions & Tips
Goffin is the odds-on favourite to win this match at 4/7, whilst Carreno Busta is at 31/20. The Belgian seems to be re-discovering his best form, whilst the Spaniard is struggling to reach the level he was at just two years ago. If their recent meeting at Flushing Meadows is any guide, then Goffin should win with comparative ease.
Tip: Goffin to win in straight sets: 13/10 (888Sport)
