Angelique Kerber v Monica Puig Head to Head
Kerber holds a slim 3-2 lead over Puig, last defeated her in Dubai back in 2017. As for their last meeting, it took place in Luxembourg in the same year, where it was Puig who inflicted damage upon the German.
Kerber Finally Finds her Rhythm
After struggling with her form for what seems like an eternity, Angelique Kerber finally got to her winning ways and snapped her four-match losing streak.
The breakthrough came in the Toray Pacific Open in Osaka, following her weeks of first-round losses in Shenzhen, Flushing Meadows, Cincinnati, and Toronto. Starting as the number four seed there, the German reached the semifinal after defeating the likes of Nicole Gibbs and Madison Keys.
Ultimately, she fell to Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova but that performance has certainly boosted her chances of a promising run in the coming events.
Kerber enjoyed a more promising time in the first half of the season as she reached the final in the WTA Eastbourne and Indian Wells Open. She was a part of the top 10 back then and now, she faces a long ascent back to that former glory.

Puig, Seeking a Reversal in Form
Puig’s form has been a lot similar to that of Kerber this season, except she has had to face that rut for most of the year. With the sole exception of WTA Charleston, where World No. 69 reached the semifinal, she hasn’t had a lot of promising runs on the circuit.
Currently, her win-loss tally stands at 18-20 and is heading in this game following first-round losses in the US Open and WTA Osaka. Like Kerber, Puig too, is hoping to revive herself but it will be a difficult task for her. She hasn’t reached a final since the Luxembourg Open back in 2017.
Kerber v Puig Tips & Predictions
One way or another, Kerber should be able to win this, especially considering the form her opponent is in at the moment. However, given that she has succumbed to a lot of underdogs this season, Puig will certainly fancy her chances here. This won’t be an easy match for either of the two players.
