The WTA Premier is back for its 12th edition in Brisbane. Scheduled to begin in the second week of January 2020, it will see a host of stars including Ash Barty and Naomi Osaka participate in the competition.
Since 2009, pretty much every big name player from the WTA Tour has played in Brisbane. The likes of Victoria Azarenka, Kim Clijsters, Petra Kvitova, Serena Williams, Maria Sharapova, Karolina Pliskova and Elina Svitolina have all found a spot in the competition.
The organization committee are as of now chipping away at the field for the following version of the tournament, declaring two recent Grand Slam champions, who are expected lead the proceedings at the Queensland Tennis Center. Two-time Grand Slam champion Osaka joins the local favorite Barty in the fight for the title.

The world number four, Osaka and the winner of the US Open in 2018 and the Australian Open in 2019 has been struggling to be at her best after Melbourne. However, last week in Osaka she managed to capture the title in her hometown after a predominant showcase in the final against Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova.
She will be hoping to remain consistent throughout the remainder of the season and even at the beginning of the new one in Brisbane.
Barty, on the other hand has a solid opportunity to finish the 2019 season as the first Australian to be the WTA No.1 by the end of the season. The Aussie became the first player to qualify for the WTA Finals in Shenzhen after the US Open.
The 23-year-old is scheduled to continue playing even after the end of the WTA season, having led Australia to the Fed Cup final against France, which will be played in Perth on November 9-10. An interesting few months to follow in the lead-up to the Australian Open with these two possibly joining the defending champion Karolina Pliskova in the competition.
