Ash Barty v Caroline Garcia Head to Head

This will be the third match between Barty and Garcia. In their first encounter that was held in Wuhan itself in 2017, Garcia defeated the Aussie to lift the title before Barty had her revenge last year at the WTA Elite Trophy where she won in straight sets.

Barty’s First Match Since US Open

A title-win at the French Open, followed by the number one ranking in the world and then lifting the Birmingham Open trophy put the Aussie as a firm favourite for the rest of the season but it’s been a slight letdown. While she regained her number one ranking having lost it once to Naomi Osaka, a fourth round exit at Wimbledon and another at the same stage in the US Open wouldn’t have filled her with a lot of joy.

Add that second round exit at Toronto at the hands of Sofia Kenin and another one in the semifinal at Cincinnati and you know things haven’t gone as well as the number one would have liked. Her US Open defeat would have particularly stung her given its manner, having lost 6-2, 6-4 to Qiang Wang.

Looking at the positives – and there’re a truckloads of them for the Aussie this season – she is 47-10 on win-loss record this year, has won three titles and on three different kinds of surfaces. Probably just a case of mind over matter and Barty should get the job done again in the rest of the season.

Previous Champion Garcia in Hard Court Trouble

A winner in this competition in 2018, Garcia’s previous edition performance saw her lose in the second round of the competition. She also entered this year’s Wuhan Open on the back of five losses in six matches on hard court surfaces, making her win over Daria Kasatkina, 6-2, 6-2, slightly sweeter than otherwise.

This has been her worst season on hard court surfaces by some distance too. 19 matches played this year and only seven won. A third round entry at the Australian Open have been juxtaposed next to opening round exits at Shenzhen, Hobart, Hua Hin and Indian Wells even in the first part of the season.

Amid all this, Garcia did win a title this year though, one on grass in Nottingham which has held her ranking from falling dramatically, but she would definitely have wanted to do better than be ranked 30th at the moment – down 26 spots from her best ever.

Ash Barty v Caroline Garcia Tips & Predictions

Barty is a heavy favourite to win this one, so if you are looking at a safe bet, this seems to be it with an offer of 2/9 for a Barty win. However, you can go with a straight-set victory for Barty as well, which is paying out 8/11.

Tip: Barty to win in straight sets: 8/11 (888Sport)
