Denis Shapovalov v Bradley Klahn Head to Head

This will be the first meeting between the 20-year old Canadian, and the American, nine years his senior.

Can Shapovalov End Lacklustre Year on a High?

20-year-old Shapovalov has had a largely disappointing year, failing to build on the early promise he showed when winning the 2016 Wimbledon Championships as a  junior, and then reaching the semi-finals of the Rogers Cup as an 18 year old.

He did reach his second Masters semi-final in Miami in March, but, despite that, he has had to watch as Canadian tennis headlines have been grabbed by Bianca Andreescu, and his friend Felix Auger Aliassime, who has passed him in the world rankings.

Despite that, he is still young, and has time on his side. He will be looking for a strong end to the season so he can regroup and set himself to go again next year.

A comfortable straight sets win over Ricardas Berankis in the first round on Wednesday helped ease him into this tournament.

Klahn, American Qualifier Enjoying Rare Second Round Appearance

Klahn rarely features in the main draw of senior events, although he is a well-known figure on the junior circuits, where he has won 2 ITF Futures, and 8 ATP Challenger tour titles, the most recent of which came in Winnetka in the USA in July. He is most comfortable on hard courts – all but two of the finals he has contested have been on that surface.

On the senior tour, his best result of the year came at the start of the year in Melbourne, where he battled through qualifying to reach the first round. He also qualified for the Masters events in Indian Wells and Miami. However, in each case, he was then beaten in the first round.

His win over fellow-qualifier and compatriot Jason Chung on Monday in the first round was, therefore, most welcome to him, although he needed a third set tie-break to clinch a close match.

Shapovalov v Klahn Predictions & Tips

Shapovalov is the odds-on favourite to win this match at 3/10, whilst Klahn is priced at 13/5. Shapovalov may not be having his best year on tour, but he should have more than enough to comfortably beat a man for whom getting to the second round of such a tournament is a rare novelty.

Tip: Shapovalov to win in straight sets: 4/5 (888Sport)
