Sorana Cirstea v Alison van Uytvanck Predictions & Preview

Romania’s Sorana Cirstea will take on Belgium’s Alison van Uytvanck in the final of the Tashkent Open 2019 on Saturday and it will be their third meeting. Cirstea leads 2-0 on head to head, having both at the New Haven Open in 2014 and then registered another straight-set victory in Linz in 2017 as well.

At the time of their previous meeting, Cirstea was ranked 37th in the world, and in 2018 she made a high of 33rd but has slowly fallen off the grid. So much so that Cirstea was ranked outside the top 100 earlier this year and only a solid showing at Budapest helped her regain some of her points.

Cirstea also made it to the semifinals at Nurnberg, and then after a string of poor results where she found herself on a five-match losing streak, she entered round three at the US Open. A first round loss at Hiroshima would have dented her confidence but a final here has already ensured she will begin next week in the top 75 of the rankings. Can she win this one and break into the top 70?

Van Uytvanck would have different ideas though. Ranked 61st in the world, she would have re-broken into the top 50 again next week because of this showing while a win would take her closer to the 40th spot. And the Belgian was a quarterfinalist at the Hiroshima Open two weeks ago, before winning four matches in a row in this competition in straight sets.

While Kristyna Pliskova finally managed to push her a tad in the second set, her form and hitting prowess make her bit of a favourite going into this encounter.

Tip: Three sets in the match: 7/4 with Unibet
