Belinda Bencic v Su-Wei Hsieh Head to Head
Bencic leads Hsieh by 2-0, last defeating her in the final of the WTA Hua Hin in 2017. However, over the last two years, the two players have grown considerably and it will be interesting to see how this match pans out here in Beijing.
Bencic, in Top 10 Again
Belinda Bencic is heading into this fixture of the China Open, following a rather disappointing start to her Asian swing. Playing in the Wuhan Open last week, she fell to Veronika Kudermetova in the opener in three sets.
However, that isn’t to say that the the Swiss hasn’t had a year to be proud of. Back in the top 10, Bencic has had a remarkable time on the tour so far with consistent, impeccable results. Case in point, she most recently reached the semifinal in the US Open where she toppled World No. 1 and defending champion Naomi Osaka in the fourth round.
After struggling with her form over the last couple of seasons, Bencic has finally found her groove and appears to be back to her winning ways. In February, she won the WTA Dubai, defeating Petra Kvitova in the final, thus also marking her first singles title in almost three years! Apart from this, she also reached the semifinal in the Madrid Open and the quarterfinal in Charleston.

Hsieh, a Force to be Reckoned With
Currently ranked World No. 5 on the doubles circuit, Su-Wei Hsieh has had quite a year in terms of trophies and experience. As a prolific doubles player, she won the Wimbledon doubles title, along with the Madrid Open.
As a singles player too, she has had quite a year with a win-loss tally of 30-22. Despite a poor showing in the Asian swing – marked by a couple of early exits in the Wuhan Open and WTA Osaka, she is still a part of the top 50. Hsieh reached the quarterfinal in Miami and the semifinal in Dubai, defeating some big names in the process – Angelique Kerber, Karolina Pliskova, Naomi Osaka, and Carolina Wozniacki.
Clearly, the 33-year-old is more than experienced in facing the top 10 players on the tour and taking them head to head on equal footing. Despite a lack of consistency, she can more than defeat any of the top guns on her best day.
Bencic v Hsieh Tips & Predictions
While Bencic will start this match as the favourite to win, we can expect Hsieh to put up quite a resistance from her end. This won’t be an easy match for either of the two players but all in all, an entertaining one for sure.
