Elina Svitolina v Sofia Kenin Head to Head
The two players have met thrice this season, with Kenin currently leading by 2-1. But of her victories came in the US Open Series, in the Rogers Cup and Cincinnati Open, in straight sets.
Kenin, on a Meteoric Rise
The 20-year-old American has had the career-best season this year with three singles titles and her entry into the top 20. Currently ranked World No. 16 – her best singles ranking yet, Kenin won the titles at the WTA Hobart, Mallorca, and most recently the Guangzhou Open.
These three international tier titles are also supported by her consistent performances on the tour. As a semifinalist in Cincinnati and Toronto, where she dispatched some big names like Naomi Osaka and Ashleigh Barty, Kenin is slowly staking her claim as a force to be reckoned with. At the moment, her win-loss tally stands at 46-20 and also includes wins over the likes of Serena Williams, Garbine Muguruza, Madison Keys, and Victoria Azarenka.
So far in Beijing, Kenin has pretty much strolled past her rivals, defeating the likes of Muguruza and Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova. These wins also mark the fourth time in an Asian event this season that she has made it to this stage.

Svitolina, Looking Confident
Still seeking her first singles title since the WTA Finals last season, Elina Svitolina is hoping for China Open to be that event where she finally achieves the feat. But despite her lack of trophies this year, the Ukrainian’s entry into the top five is certainly a commendable accomplishment.
Svitolina has reached the quarterfinal and beyond in three of her last four tournaments on the circuit, including the US Open, Zhengzhou Open, and WTA Wuhan. As a consistent, top 10 player, she needs no introduction to successfully handling opponents who may be considered to be on equal footing with her, if not above.
She had a similar run in Wimbledon as well, where she made it to the semifinal. With very similar performances in Indian Wells, Dubai, and Doha, it was only a matter of time before Svitolina found her place inside the top five once again. Hoping to continue the same run in Beijing, she has so far defeated Anastasija Sevastova and Yafan Wang.
Svitolina v Kenin Tips & Predictions
This will be a fiercely-contested tie. Svitolina will be eager to avoid another beating at the hands of Kenin while the American will look to capitalize on her recent gains. Both the players have had a rather dodgy start in the China Open and have found their bearings through the week. All in all, it is the game of the day on Wednesday.
