David Goffin v Mikhail Kukushkin Head to Head
Goffin and Kukushkin have met twice in their careers; one of the meetings coming in a qualifying round of a Challenger competition in 2011, which was won by Kukushkin. The pair met once in the Davis Cup in 2014, where Goffin won the tight match in five sets.
Goffin Getting Stronger
Starting the season off at world No. 22, and falling as low as No. 33 at one point, Goffin has done well to claw his way to world No.14 currently.
Goffin had a somewhat slow start to the season. He made the round of 32 of the Australian Open, losing to Daniil Medvedev, but his form never really took off. The Belgian still managed to make two semifinals of ATP 250 events, losing to Stefanos Tsitsipas both times.
He managed to give Rafael Nadal a bit of a fight at the start of their match at Roland-Garros, taking the first set and losing the next three. His form improved in the next few weeks when he made the final of Halle Open, lsoing to Roger Federer. He also made the quartefinals of the Wimbledon where he faced and lost to Novak Djokovic.
Goffin qualified for the first Masters 1000 final at the Cincinnati Open, losing to Daniil Medvedev, who was on song during that time of the season. He ran into Roger Federer in the round of 16 at the US Open, but failed to give him much of a fight. The Belgian is in good form currently as well, making the semifinals of Tokyo Open.

Kukushkin has experienced a hot-cold season this year. He made the final of Marseille Open in February where he was defeated by Stefanos Tsitsipas. The 32-year-old had little joy in the next few months until Wimbledon, where he made the round of 16, beating John Isner on the way.
He reached two more quarterfinals of ATP 250 events after that and the round of 32 at the Cincinnati Masters. Apart from this he has had little joy. He will have to put in a shift in and hope he can get one over Goffin.

Goffin goes into this match as the heavy favourite. A player with his talent is a tough opponent and he is certainly in good touch at the moment. He will be looking to wrap up the match as efficiently and quickly as he can.
