Caroline Garcia v Yafan Wang Head to Head

In their one and only encounter on the tour so far, back in the 2018 China Open, Garcia won the match in three sets with 7-6(10), 6-7(4), 6-3. However, she did face quite a bit of resistance with two tie-breakers to navigate.

Garcia, With a Decent Win

Caroline Garcia started her campaign in the 2019 WTA Tianjin with a three-set win over the Russian teenager Anastasia Potapova. Losing the first set 2-6, she had to find her bearings and settle into the match as she moved on to win the next two sets in a clinical manner.

Over the last few months, the number four seed has struggled significantly with her form. Led by a series of early exits in a plethora of tournaments, her win-loss record has deteriorated to 26-24. Her run in the Asian Swing so far dictates this tale more precisely with early-round, consecutive losses in Zhengzhou, Osaka, Wuhan, and Beijing.

With one and only title so far, from the WTA Nottingham, combined with a runner-up trophy in Strasbourg, Garcia enjoyed a more eventful spell in the first half of the year. She was inside the top 25 back then and had a few promising runs to move even further up. But now, having slipped down to World No. 31 with rather serious form woes, the French-born player will need to deliver here in Tianjin to end the year on a high.

Promising Season for Wang

Starting outside the top 60, Yafan Wang, the 25-year-old Chinese player looks primed to end the season inside the top 50 now. However, like Garcia, Wang too is showing a bit of loss in form and possibly, fatigue, after having a decent start to the season.

She won the WTA Acapulco and reached the semifinal in Shenzhen and Miami, defeating the likes of Elina Svitolina and Monica Niculescu. Of late, however, the best she has delivered is reaching the semifinal in the Korea Open. In her home tournaments in Wuhan and Beijing, she fell in the second round.

In Tianjin, Wang started with a 6-0, 6-4 win over Lauren Davis in the first round.

Garcia v Wang Tips & Predictions

Both the players are struggling considerably with their forms. This may prove to be a three-setter with Wang, given her slightly better year, holding the potential to cause a massive upset here.
