Kiki Bertens v Misaki Doi Head to Head
While the head to head tally is currently tied at 1-1, the two ladies haven’t met on the tour since the 2017 WTA Nurnberg. Bertens was the winner of that match, finally settling the score from her loss to Doi back in 2013.
Bertens, Finally Finds her Groove
After struggling with her form for what seemed like an eternity, World No. 8 Kiki Bertens finally found her bearings last week in the China Open. After dealing with a litany of early-round losses in big tournaments like the Rogers Cup, Cincinnati Open, US Open, and Wuhan Open, the Dutchwoman put up a good show in Beijing.
She reached the semifinal there after knocking out the likes of Dayana Yastremska, Donna Vekic, and Elina Svitolina. Now, hoping to build some more on that recent success, Bertens is looking for her third singles title of the year in Linz as a wildcard player.
Having won the St. Petersburg Open and Madrid Open, where she defeated some big names like Simona Halep and Petra Kvitova, Bertens was primed to cement her place in the top five. But then, a series of early exits and the loss in form caused her to drop down to the eighth position. Nonetheless, she managed to deliver some good results in the Libema Open and Palermo Open, where she was the finalist.

A Tough Match for Doi
Misaki Doi, currently ranked World No. 74, navigated a couple of three-setters in the qualifiers Linz to reach the main draw. For the 28-year-old Japanese, the season hasn’t shown a great deal of promise, except for a couple of good runs. She won the 125K series event in Bastad and later, reached the final in WTA Hiroshima.
Apart from that, she has spent a majority of the year dealing with early-round losses. Her record against the top 10 isn’t that great either, with her sole win in such a scenario coming over Madison Keys in 2017.
