Daniil Medvedev v Stefanos Tsitsipas Head to Head

The pair have played each other four times in the past two years, and Medvedev has won on each occasion. Those matches comprised three in 2018 – the Miami Masters, the US Open, and the Basel Open, and the Monte Carlo Masters earlier this year. All but one of those matches, though, was decided by the odd set in three.

Medvedev Underlines Title Credentials

Medvedev has now won 23 out of the last 25 singles matches he has played, the only man to beat him in that time being Rafael Nadal, who has missed this event through injury.

And with the world number one and top seed Novak Djokovic having now been knocked out of the tournament, the 23-year-old Russian will be quietly confident that he can add the Shanghai Masters to the three other titles he has won this year – the Sofia Open, the Cincinnati Masters, and the St. Petersburg Open.

His latest victim was the number ten seed, Fabio Fognini of Italy, he put up a tough fight in their quarter-final on Friday. Yet, once again, showing the mental toughness as well as the skills on court which Medvedev has now become known for, he came through in straight sets to reach yet another semi-final.

Tsitsipas, Shock Winner Over Djokovic

Tsitsipas enjoyed one of the best wins of his career on Friday, coming from a set down to beat the top seed Novak Djokovic. Not that the result was a  surprise in itself – he had beaten the world number one once before. However, the Serb had looked in unbeatable form since returning from the shoulder injury he sustained at the US Open, winning the Tokyo Open last week without dropping a set, and cruising through his opening two matches here in Shanghai.

It was to the credit of the Greek that he survived the loss of the opening three games of the match, and, although he lost the first set, he went toe to toe with the Serb in the second. He got a vital service break in the 12th game to level the match, and then broke the Djokovic serve early in the third, holding on to close out the match.

Medvedev v Tsitsipas Predictions & Tips

Medvedev is the odds-on favourite to win this match at 8/15, whilst Tsitsipas is priced at 31/25.  In what might be a foretaste of major battles to come in Grand Slams between the best of the next generation of players, this should be a tight match. However, Medvedev is a man in supreme form, and has always had the edge in their previous meetings. Expect him to do so again.

Tip: Medvedev to win in three sets: 13/5 (888Sport)
