Anastasija Sevastova v Aliaksandra Sasnovich Head to Head
This will be the second time that Sevastova and Sasnovich will be facing off. In their first meeting that was held in Brisbane last year at the semifinal stage, Sasnovich had come off a straight-set winner. Their second match was scheduled for Moscow last year but Sevastova had pulled out of it. Will she look for a revenge?
Sevastova Hoping to Shrug Off Losing Streak
Sevastova has climbed to the 25th rank in the world but in more recent times her form has fallen and so has her ranking. She was as high as 11th in the world but a poor hard court season when she lost 12 of her 21 matches, has seen her slide down the charts.
These defeats include a three-match losing streak, that started with her third round defeat at the US Open and then saw her lose her openers at Wuhan and at the China Open. To be fair to her though, those defeats came to Petra Martic, Christina McHale and Elina Svitolina.
Even before the US Open, Sevastova had lost back to back matches to start off her US Open series; going down to in the first rounds at Toronto and Cincinnati. Her clay record is much better but how will she go on indoor hard courts where she hasn’t played a single match this year but was 6-2 on win-loss last year.

Sasnovich in a Similar Boat as Opponent
25-year-old Sasnovich is in a struggle of her own, losing four matches in a row before this one. And much like Sevastova, her string of defeats began at the US Open, where she was taken out in the second round before losses to Krunic, Sabalenka and Andreescu in her next three.
She will try to take some positive from that Andreescu match in which she managed to take a set off her, but her overall record this year has not been much to write about. On hard courts, she is 14-14, and on grass and clay combined, a measly 2-7. This would be her first indoor court match this season.
Sasnovich will look at her performances on indoor surfaces in 2017 when she was a qualifier in two of the tournaments – at Biel and Budapest – and went on to make the semi-final and quarter-final.
Sevastova v Sasnovich Predictions & Tips
Sevastova, despite her poor form, will hold the edge over her opponent whose struggles are even more ingrained this season. Expect the Latvian world number 25 to win this one.
