Andy Murray v Pablo Cuevas Head to Head
The pair have met twice before, both on hard courts. Murray won in straight sets at the US Open in 2014, and again at the Beijing Open three years later.
Murray, First ATP Singles Win in Europe for 16 Months
Andy Murray won his first ATP singles win on European soil on European soil for 16 months on Tuesday, although he made very heavy weather of defeating the Belgian wildcard Kimmer Coppejans.
Murray raced into an early three-love lead with a break, but handed the advantage straight back, after producing three double faults in his next service game. Fortunately for him, was able to break his opponent’s serve once more to clinch the set. The second set was even tighter, and went to a tie-break which Murray eventually won.
Still, it was another win in his long comeback from career threatening injury.
He has already indicated that Antwerp is likely to be his last tournament in 2019, with his wife heavily pregnant with their third child.
However, having already accepted an invitation to play in next January’s Australian Open, tennis fans can already look forward to him continuing his climb back up the world rankings again in 2020.

Cuevas, A South American Clay Court Specialist
33-year old Cuevas has won six senior ATP singles titles, all of them on clay. The most recent of those victories came in Brazil in March 2017, although he did reach the final in Estoril earlier this year, where he lost to Stefanos Tsitsipas. He has also had some success in doubles, winning the French Open in 2008 with his partner, the Peruvian Luis Horne.
Apart from that result in Estoril, his best performances in 2019 came during the South American clay court season at the start of the year, where he reached the semi-finals in Cordoba and Rio, and the quarters in Sao Paolo.
Good results since then have been harder to come by, although he did win the Challenger event in Tunis. However, he got his campaign in Belgium off to a good start on Wednesday, beating fellow South American Hugo Dellien of Bolivia in straight sets.
Murray v Cuevas Predictions & Tips
Murray is the overwhelming favourite to win this match at 8/25, whilst Cuevas is priced at 47/20. The Uruguayan has never previously taken a set off the Scot, and, although Murray’s comeback is still in its infancy, he should have enough skill and power to win this match against somebody more at home on a clay court.
Tip: Murray to win in straight sets: 2/1 (888Sport)
