Dominic Thiem v Jo-Wilfred Tsonga Head to Head
The pair have met twice before on tour. The Frenchman has won both the encounters, at Viena in 2013 and at Indian Wells in 2016.
Thiem Looking to Improve Record at Home Event
26 year old Austrian has never gone past the quarter-finals at his home ATP 500 event. His best showing at Viena has been the quarter-final run he achieved last year.
His second half of this year has been very impressive. Before the short break he took before his quarter-final exit at the China Open, he was on a seven-match winning streak. Apart from making it to the French Open final, he has also won four other titles this calendar year.
With qualification to the season-ending ATP World Tour Finals in London wrapped up, he took a week off from the tour to recuperate from a hectic season. A year where he has already won 40 matches on tour, his fourth consecutive year of achieving this feat.

Tsonga Having a Dream End to the Season
Since crashing out of the US Open in the first round, Tsonga has been on a fantastic run. With a record of 14-2, he has won Cassis Challenger, title at Metz and reached the semi-finals at Orleans. His defeat at the hands of Giles Simon came as a shock last week at the Antwerp Open given his form and indoor fast courts, which suits his game.
Tsonga’s year started strongly with a title at Montepellier, but resulted up to the US Open were quite inconsistent. He has failed to go past round two at seven tournaments this year.
Currently ranked number 36 in the world, the Frenchman has had a good record at this event. He was a winner here in 2011 as well as reaching finals in 2016 & 2017.
Dominic Thiem v Jo-Wilfred Tsonga Predictions & Tips
Both the players have a powerful backhand and like to dominate the game from the baseline. Tsonga has the more powerful servers, and the indoor hard courts should suit him more. But Thiem is ranked much higher than his opponent in terms of winning points on serve and playing the pressure points this year.
Support of the local crowd will also be a significant factor in this match.
