Matteo Berrettini v Kyle Edmund Head to Head
The first round clash at Vienna Open will be the second match between the two players. Edmund leads the head to head against Berrettini, having beaten him at China Open in 2018.
Impressive Berrettini Making Heads Turn
Matteo Berrettini had a breakthrough season last year itself when he jumped from world No. 135 to No. 54. It seemed unlikely he could top that season, but he certainly has with displays of some wonderful tennis. He started the season at No. 54, only to rise through the ranks to finally, and currently, sit at his career-best No. 11.
The Italian has already played three finals in the season at the Arizona Challenger series, ATP 250 Budapest Open and ATP 250 Stuttgart Open. He won two of those titles, at Arizona and Stuttgart. What’s more, he also reached four semifinals; one of them coming at the US Open, where he beat big names like Richard Gasquet and Gael Monfils, finally going out to Rafael Nadal.
The 23-year-old has looked very comfortable playing at the very top with the very best. His recent form too has been good with a run to the semifinals of the Shanghai Masters a few weeks ago. He defeated Roberto Bautista-Agut and Dominic Thiem before losing to Alexander Zverev.

A Forgettable Season for Edmund
Kyle Edmund’s gradual rise in the sport took a major hit this season. His abysmal record this season reads 12 wins and 20 losses. The Brit had achieved his career-best ranking of world No. 14 last season and started off this season at the same spot. However, his dismal season has seen his ranking now fall to No. 55.
To underline this, his recent form speaks for itself. Edmund has lost his first round match in the last five tournaments, including US Open; and won just one in the last six. The biggest high of his season came at Indian Wells Oracle Challenger Series, where he won the title, beating Andrey Rublev in the final.
Berrettini v Edmund Tips and Predictions
Berrettini will enter the match as the heavy favourite. The Italian has played some sublime tennis throughout the season, and vitally in recent weeks too.
On the other hand, Edmund has suffered this year, falling from his career-best ranking of No. 14 to No. 55. He will need to find something special to be able to progress further than the first round at Vienna Open.
Expect Berrettini to cruise through to the second round.
