Dominic Thiem v Fernando Verdasco Predictions & Preview
This is the fifth meeting between the two players and somewhat surprisingly, Spanish veteran Fernando Verdasco has won on all occasions. They have met on clay, grass, and the hardcourts. Their most recent meeting was earlier this year, on the clay courts in Rome, which Verdasco won in three sets.
Austrian Dominic Thiem has never won the ATP 500 in his home country and will be looking for a title run here this week. It has been a somewhat mixed year for the top seed, who won his first ATP Masters 1000 at Indian Wells and had a good run during the clay court season, being a finalist at the French Open and winning the ATP 500 at Barcelona. However, a dip in form saw him lose early at both Wimbledon and the US Open. But, the Austrian has come back since, winning the China Open in Beijing and securing his spot at the ATP Tour Finals in London next month.
Spanish veteran Fernando Verdasco, who was once in the top ten in the world, continues to be a force on the tour. Despite having a below average year by his standards, he continues to remind tennis fans of his presence and abilities, with results like his first round victory against Nikoloz Basilashvilli earlier this week, in Vienna.
An intriguing battle ahead of us and while Thiem starts as the favorite at home, the Spaniard Verdasco will be looking to capitalize on the mental edge from the 4-0 head-to-head. Expect Thiem to continue his recent good run of form in two tight sets.
Tip: Thiem to win in straight sets.

Hyeon Chung v Andrey Rublev Predictions & Preview
The careers of both Chung and Rublev have gone through similar paths. Both were frontrunners around the time the term ‘Next Gen’ was first coined in 2017. They met three times in 2017, with Chung winning on all occasions, including the finals of the inaugural ATP Next Gen Finals in Milan that year.
Since then both have been plagued by injuries; Rublev first and then Chung. 2018 was a year of injuries for both and 2019 has been the comeback year for both. Rublev though, is further ahead on the comeback trail, than his Korean counterpart.
It has been a good last few months for the young Russian, who is currently ranked a career high number 22 in the world, after winning the ATP 250 in Moscow last week. He has done well consistently, since after Wimbledon, defeating three top ten players in Roger Federer, Dominic Thiem, and Stefanos Tsitsipas.
Chung, who was out somewhat longer has been making attempts to get back to the tour since the US hard court season, and had some positive results making the third round at the US Open, and defeating Milos Raonic in straight sets here earlier this week, among others.
Expect a good match between these two rising stars, but given Rublev’s current form, expect him to win in two close sets.
Tip: Rublev to win in straight sets.

Sam Querrey v Diego Schwartzman Predictions & Preview
This is the fifth meeting between giant serving American Sam Querrey and Argentine Diego Schwartzman. The matchup is tied at 2-2; with Querrey winning the most recent clash a few weeks ago in Beijing.
Sam Querrey was ranked in the top 10 in the world in 2017, but a mix of injuries and poor form has seen him drop in the rankings to outside the top 75 earlier this year. A few good weeks during the Asian swing has done a world of good for his confidence, as he is now back in the top 50 in the rankings. Querrey will be looking to continue this run and end the season on a positive note. The American’s campaign here in Vienna was off to a good start with a convincing win over Frenchman Adrian Mannarino.
Argentine Diego Schwartzman had a good run in the last two seasons, and while this current year may not have been as promising, he has done well to maintain a steady ranking in the top 15 in the world, as well as make the quarter-finals of the US Open. Schwartzman looked in good touch in his straight sets win against Frenchman Pierre-Hugues Herbert.
Expect another good battle on the cards, and the match will come down to whose better on the day and who plays the bigger points better. Schwartzman to win this encounter in three sets.
Tip: Schwartzman to win in three sets.

Gael Monfils v Jannik Sinner Predictions & Preview
In a repeat of last week, Jannik Sinner and Gael Monfils meet for the second time in their careers. The 18-year-old Italian pulled an unexpected win against top seed Gael Monfils at the European Open in Antwerp, last week.
It has been a year of many firsts for the young Italian Sinner, who played his first ever ATP singles match this year, as well as win his first Challenger title, and play his first Grand Slam match at the US Open. Sinner is knocking on the top 100 of the ATP rankings already, with a semi-final run last week at the European Open in Antwerp. The teenager continued his good run of form defeating German veteran Philipp Kohlschreiber in the opening round here earlier this week.
French veteran Gael Monfils has had a strong year winning the ATP Rotterdam 500, making the quarter-finals at the US Open, and returning to the top 10 in the rankings. Monfils’ season has lost its way a little since the Asian swing and while he still has an outside chance to make the ATP Tour Finals in London next month, he knows he needs to have deep runs here in Vienna and in Paris next week.
While Sinner will be confident after last week, Monfils will like to set the record straight here and should win in straight sets.
Tip: Monfils to win in straight sets.
