Petra Kvitova v Belinda Bencic Head to Head
Kvitova holds a 4-1 lead over Bencic, last beating her in the China Open just a few weeks back. While the Czech has been pretty dominant in all of their meetings, Bencic did manage to stun Kvitova in the final of the WTA Dubai, earlier this season.
A Poor Start for Kvitova
Looking to reach her third year-end championship final of her career, Petra Kvitova arrived in Shenzhen and found herself in a pretty difficult draw. In the opening match, she met Naomi Osaka and succumbed to the Japanese in three sets.
On the whole, Kvitova’s year has been good by all means but by her standards, it may be quite disappointing. However, it’s not her fault, considering that the 29-year-old fell prey to a bunch of injuries. In the first half of the season, she won the Australian Open and WTA Stuttgart but following her health issues, she skipped the French Open and subsequently, lost her form when she returned.
It wasn’t until the end of the US Open Series/start of the Asian swing that Kvitova found her groove again. While it wasn’t a title-winning groove, reaching the semifinal in Wuhan and the quarterfinal in the China Open did boost the morale of the three-time Grand Slam finalist.

A Season of Highs for Bencic
From struggling with forms and staying out of the top 50 to ending her title drought and finding her way back into the top 10, it has been quite a season for the 22-year-old Bencic.
The Swiss won her first title in over three years, at the WTA Dubai defeating Simona Halep in the final. She followed that with a runner-up feat in Mallorca and later, winning the Kremlin Cup. Between these events, she also reached the semifinal in the US Open, defeating Naomi Osaka and Donna Vekic along the way. That was also her maiden Grand Slam semifinal appearance. With a win-loss tally of 48-20 and the career-best singles ranking of World No. 7, she has definitely been in an impressive form.
Competing in her maiden WTA Finals, she met Barty in the opener and fell to the Aussie in three sets.
