Dominic Thiem v Grigor Dimitrov Head to Head

The head-to-head is locked at 2-2, but in three of those meetings which were played on hard courts, it is Dimitrov who leads 2-1. However, their last encounter came almost two years ago at the ATP Finals in London.

Thiem Aiming For Seventh Heaven

Fresh from claiming a 16th career title on home soil in Vienna last weekend, Dominic Thiem wasted no time to extend his winning streak to six matches on Wednesday as he fought valiantly to tame the big serve of Canada’s Milos Raonic in three sets –  a match that lasted over two and half hours.

The fifth-seeded Austrian withstood a barrage of aggressive hitting which included a whopping 30 aces and a 1-3 deficit in the first set tiebreak to book his spot in the third round.

Victory in Vienna took Thiem’s title tally to five, which is more than anyone else on tour and it is worth noting that three of those titles have been on hard courts – a surface that had been symbolic of his struggles in the past. Another key highlight for him this year was a second successive appearance in the French Open final where he was beaten by Rafael Nadal.

Dimitrov Beat Goffin In A Rematch Of 2017 ATP Finals

Grigor Dimitrov won the tussle against David Goffin to reach the third round in a rematch from their 2017 ATP Finals championship match. While Goffin was still in contention to qualify this year (up until this loss), the same cannot be said for Grigor Dimitrov who has endured a mix season featuring some of the lowest moments in his career and a few high points too.

Since capturing the ATP Finals crown two years ago, the Bulgarian went into hiding and his troubles were well documented. However, he seemed to have turned a corner with a fine run to the semifinals of the US Open last month where he beat Roger Federer for the first time en route.

But things have changed again and the 28-year-old has since slipped into his pre-New York form, winning just two matches prior to this week in the tournaments after the US Open.

Dominic Thiem v Grigor Dimitrov Predictions & Tips

Thiem might be a slight favorite, but Dimitrov is a dangerous athlete on an indoor hard court. Granted Thiem is in exceptional form from his Vienna triumph, he may have one eye on London.
