Novak Djokovic v Grigor Dimitrov Predictions & Preview

Novak Djokovic and Grigor Dimitrov will be meeting for the tenth time in their careers. Djokovic leads the head-to-head 8-1, having won the last six meetings in a row.

World number one Novak Djokovic has won four titles this year, the Australian Open, Wimbledon, the Madrid Masters and the ATP 500 in Tokyo. Despite the intermittent dips in form at different points this year, and the shoulder injury that saw him pull out of the US Open, Djokovic has brought his best when it mattered the most, and looks on course for a tight race this weekend and in London with Rafael Nadal for the year end number one ranking.  The world number one who came through his first two matches with his moments of being challenged, looked in ominous form in the quarter-finals defeating Stefanos Tsitsipas 6-1,6-2 in less than an hour

Grigor Dimitrov, who has otherwise had a poor season, was able to salvage some of it, with a US Open semi-finals appearance defeating Roger Federer in the previous round. The post US Open portion of his season since has not been too positive either but he has hit stellar form this week on the indoor courts of Paris. Defeating former and current Top 10 players, David Goffin and Dominic Thiem in straight sets, Dimitrov continued his run of form against Cristain Garin in the semi-finals and will be happy to end 2019 on a positive note.

It is difficult to envision Dimitrov trouble Djokovic, after the form the Serb hit in his quarterfinal match against Tsitsipas. Expect Djokovic to make another Paris Masters 1000 in straight sets.

Tip: Djokovic to win in two sets.

Rafael Nadal v Denis Shapovalov Predictions & Preview

Rafael Nadal and Denis Shapovalov are tied 1-1 in the head-to-head, with Shapovalov having won on the hard courts of Montreal in 2017, with Nadal following it with a win on the clay in Rome in 2018.

Having won the French & US Opens, bringing his slam count to 19 titles, Nadal was also a finalist at the Australian Open, and a Wimbledon semi-finalist. He also won the Rome and Montreal Masters 1000 titles, and currently ranked number two in the world, has a more than realistic chance of overtaking Novak Djokovic to be the year end world number one. Despite a few shaky moments in his matches this week, he has looked strong when it matters most to win in straight sets against all his opponents, and made his first final at the Paris Masters since 2013, with his eyes on the number one ranking and pursuing a record extending 36th Masters 1000 title.

With Mikhail Youzhny’s addition to his coaching team, Canadian Denis Shapovalov’s season which took a downturn after his semi-final showing at the ATP 1000 in Miami has been revived with semi-final showings during the Asian swing and winning his first ATP title in Stockholm. Shapovalov looked in good form when he defeated London Tour Finals hopeful Fabio Fognini in the opening round, followed by another top 10 win against Alexander Zverev. In the quarterfinals against Gael Monfils, he put an end to the Frenchman’s quest for a London Tour Final bid with another convincing win.

Shapovalov is in stellar form, but he plays Rafael Nadal which is never going to be easy. Expect a tight contest, but Nadal will likely play the big points better and wrap it up in two tight sets.

Tip: Nadal to win in two sets.
