Alex de Minaur v Frances Tiafoe Head to Head
The pair have met once before on the senior tour, at the US Open in 2018, with de Minaur winning a second round encounter in four sets. They also met on the Challenger tour back in 2017 in Brisbane, with de Minaur also winning that match.
De Minaur Booked His Place with Comprehensive Victory
As top seed, and the highest ranked player in the tournament, de Minaur has taken his expected place in the semi-finals, having won all three matches in Group A. He has got better as the week has progressed. In his first match against Alejandro Davidovich Fokina, he started well enough, but allowed his opponent back into the match, and even to edge ahead, before raising his game and his tempo to re-assert his control.
He improved against the Serb Miomir Kecmanovic, but, having taken a two set lead, allowed his opponent to claw a set back, before running away with the match in the fourth.
However, he had no such problems against the Norwegian Casper Ruud, thrashing the world number 56 in three sets for the concession of just three games.

Tiafoe Fought Back from Opening Setback
Tiafoe is playing this event, like his opponent, for the second consecutive year, and, in reaching the semi-finals, he has already done better than he managed in 2018. It has not been easy by any means though.
His troubles began on Tuesday when he was stunned by the number 8 seed and Italian wildcard Yannik Sinner, taking the first set, only to lose the next three and the match.
He bounced back with a hard-fought four set victory over the Frenchman Ugo Humbert, taking a two set lead, the second on a tie-break, only to be pegged back in the third. However, he found the inspiration he needed to close out the fourth to set up a winner takes all match with Mikael Ymer on Thursday, which he duly won in straight sets to set up his meeting with de Minaur.
