Rafael Nadal v Stefanos Tsitsipas Head to Head

This will be the seventh time that Nadal and Tsitsipas will be facing off and the Spaniard has a 5-1 record over his Greek opponent. What is surprising is Tsitsipas’ only win over Nadal came on clay, in the 2019 Madrid Masters. In the three other matches that were played between these two players in 2019, Tsitsipas fought hard to take a set off Nadal on one occasion but lost each time.

They had also faced off in the semifinal of the Australian Open where Tsitsipas had gone in having beaten Roger Federer but was sent packing in straight sets.

Nadal Starts Pre-Season with Easy Win

After a first round bye, Nadal started off his preseason with a straightforward, straight-set win over Karen Khachanov in his semifinal. He won 6-1, 6-3 to make it his eighth successive victory over Khachanov.

It was also his eighth win on the bounce since his opening defeat at the hands of Alexander Zverev as he now looks to recapture the Mubadala title for the fifth time in his career. Khachanov tested Nadal out in the third game of the first set but once the Spaniard had managed to hold his serve, there was no looking back for him.

The Russian was broken soon after and with his serve gone, so was his fighting spirit as Nadal upped the ante the cruised home to an easy victory. Things will be a lot tougher in the final, but with the kind of form that Nadal has shown in recent times, and his own record against Tsitsipas, he will be an overwhelming favourite.

Tsitsipas Beats Djokovic Again

We had tipped Djokovic to beat Tsitsipas but it was the Greek who had the last laugh in their semifinal on Friday. After having cruised past Andrey Rublev in the quarterfinal, Tsitsipas overcame the loss of the first set to edge out the world number two Djokovic in three. Tsitsipas won 3-6, 7-6, 6-4 to make the final.

What makes the win even more impressive is it was no fluke. Tsitsipas had already defeated Djokovic twice in his career, having played him four times before. And with this win, it’s now become three victories in five matches, a record that the Serb would be desperate to overturn.

However, speaking of correcting poor records, it’s Tsitsipas who would want to do the same when he takes on Nadal. While the Greek has beaten all the Big Three players, it does look like defeating Nadal seems the toughest to do for him. Here’s a good chance for Tsitsipas to turn things around against his nemesis.

Rafael Nadal v Stefanos Tsitsipas Predictions & Tips

Nadal’s solid form in recent times should make him a solid favourite and unsurprisingly he starts out at 4/11 to win this one. Tsitsipas will know it all though because that’s exactly the odds that bet365 had offered for a Djokovic win and Tsitsipas managed to overturn them and win the match. He will hope he can do that twice in a row.

Tip: Nadal to win in three sets: 10/3 (Click here to get these odds with Unibet)
