Guido Pella v Kamil Majchrzak Predictions & Preview

World number 25 Guido Pella will take on Poland’s 101st-ranked Kamil Majchrzak in their first match of the ATP Cup 2020 on Saturday. This will be the first meeting between the 29-year-old Argentine and Majchrzak, six years his junior.

While Pella has obviously had a much improved showing on the ATP circuit, having also won his first – and only – title last season, majority of his solid showing has come on clay. It’s a different story on hard court surfaces, what with a win-loss record of 25-32 on it over the past four seasons.

His opponent, Majchrzak is yet to take off at the ATP level, with his top ranking being just 83rd in the world. However, on hard court surfaces, he does a lot better, having won a whopping twice the number of matches he has lost on that surface. What must be kept in mind, however, is many of those wins have come at the lower-level tournaments.

This could turn out to be a lot closer than the rankings suggest.

Diego Schwartzman v Hubert Hurkacz Predictions & Preview

The 14th-ranked Diego Schwartzman takes on the 37th-ranked Polish player Hubert Hurkacz at the 2020 ATP Cup in what will be their first ever meeting at this level. Schwartzman has won two titles over the past two years at the highest level including one at the Los Cabos Open last year, a tournament played on hard courts.

And Schwartzman finished the previous season with a runner-up trophy at the Vienna Open, going down to the local favourite Dominic Thiem in a tough three-setter. He did lose in the opening round at the Paris Masters and won just one of his three matches at the Davis Cup, but the Argentine has been punching above his weight for a while.

However, his opponent Hurkacz won’t be a pushover by any stretch.

Hurkacz’s best career ranking is 33rd, and he is hovering around that mark for a while now. A decent performance in the last two tournaments he played last year – Vienna Open and Paris Masters – could have helped him break into the top 30 but he went down in the opening rounds at both tournaments. Can he start things off with a win here? Could be a stiff one that goes into three sets.

Tip: Three sets in the match: 11/8 (Click here to get these odds with bet365)

Go Soeda v Martin Cuevas Predictions & Preview

121st-ranked Japanese player Go Soeda will hope to carry his country’s dreams in the ATP Cup after the withdrawal of Kei Nishikori and he starts off with an easy encounter against Uruguay’s 523rd-ranked Martin Cuevas. This will be their first meeting.

Soeda has been around at the Challenger circuit level, hasn’t won a title even at that level for three years now. There was one finals appearance and four other semifinals last year in Challenger tournaments but just one match win at the ATP level.

Cuevas had reached a career-best of 271st in the world but has currently fallen to outside the top 500. And what’s interesting is all his matches in 2019 came on clay, where he lost 21 to his 17 wins. Despite Soeda’s obvious struggles, he should not have too many worries winning this.

Tip: Soeda to win in straight sets: 8/15 (Click here to get these odds with bet365)

Roberto Bautista Agut v Aleksandre Metreveli Predictions & Preview

This has to be one of the most one-sided matches of the entire tournament. On the one hand is Spaniard world number nine Roberto Bautista-Agut, who is facing off against a player ranked 679th in the world, Georgia’s Aleksandre Metreveli. With Metreveli having last won a Futures’ title in 2016 and slid down the rankings since then, it could end up being a rout, with

Tip: Roberto Bautista Agut to win the first set 6-1 or 6-2: 6/4 (Click here to get these odds with bet365)
