Fabio Fognini v Casper Ruud Predictions & Preview

The 12th-ranked Fabio Fognini will need to come up with something special to try and stop Norway and Casper Ruud from sending them out of the competition as the two face off in an important second match for their respective countries at the ATP Cup.

Fognini fought hard but came up cropped against Daniil Medvedev in his opening match and with Stefano Travaglia also going down in his opener, Italy were crushed by Russia in their first tie. With Norway having stunned USA in their opening tie, this match makes for an interesting view what with Italy needing to win it to stay in the competition.

And for that to happen, Fognini will need to keep this simple. Win and win easy.

Easier said than done though, especially on hard court surfaces, which isn’t quite a favourite for the Italian. At the same time, Ruud is coming off a shock victory over John Isner, a three-set, two-tie-break slugfest that saw level the tie for his country before their doubles team upset the American pair.

Fognini and Ruud have never played each other before this but this could turn out to be a humdinger going into three sets.

Karen Khachanov v Taylor Fritz Predictions & Preview

In what will be the second match between these two players, Russia’s Karen Khachanov will be up against USA’s Taylor Fritz on Sunday. In their previous match, Khachanov wasted no time in getting past Fritz in straight sets, winning 6-2, 6-4 at the Shanghai Masters last year.

In terms of how the two teams are placed, the results of the first round of matches has made things very interesting in the group. Khachanov’s Russia won their opener 3-0 against Italy while USA were stunned by Norway despite Fritz’s easy win. This leads to a situation whereby USA need to win their tie to stay in contention and given how close things could get, they need to win it 3-0.

Now that it would be easy for them given the presence of Khachanov and Daniil Medvedev representing Russia but Fritz would know even Khachanov won’t be an easy opposition. The Russian, who defeated Hyeon Chung but then lost to Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic at Abu Dhabi, was a straight-set winner over Travaglia in his opening match here.

Fritz, who rose to 25th in the world last season, did not have the greatest season on hard court surfaces in 2019 but will take heart from the fact he didn’t waste too much overcoming Viktor Durasovic in his first match.

This could go the distance too, with three sets expected.

Tip: Khachanov to win in three sets: 3/1 (Click here to get these odds with bet365)

Stefano Travaglia v Viktor Durasovic Predictions & Preview

Italy’s Stefanos Travaglia went down in straight sets to Khachanov in his opener but fought hard before his loss. With a bit of luck, it could have well been a three-setter. And now up against the 332nd-ranked Viktor Durasovic, he will start off as a favourite.

Durasovic won just four games in his match against Fritz, so his objective would be to last longer on court but expect the Italian to win in straight sets inn what would be their first match against each other.

Tip: Travaglia to win in straight sets: 19/20 (Click here to get these odds with Unibet)

Jan-Lennard Struff v Michail Pervolarakis Predictions & Preview

Germany’s Jan-Lennard Struff takes on the Greek Michail Pervolarakis in their second set of matches and should have no trouble with this one. Greece suffered a defeat at the hands of Canada in their opening match with Pervolarakis going down to Felix Auger-Aliassime in straight sets, while Struff gave it his all but that didn’t stop Nick Kyrgios from registering a straight-set win over him.

In short this should be an important match for both players in the entire scheme of things but one that Struff sounds a straight-set victor in against an opponent ranked more than 450 places behind him on the ATP Rankings.

Tip: Struff to win in straight sets: 1/4 (Click here to get these odds with Unibet)
