The pair have met each other five times on the tour so far. With the Greek leading 4-1 against the German. Zverev won their first-ever meeting at Washington’s hard courts in 2018. But Tsitsipas has since won at Toronto Masters in 2018 & Madrid Masters, Beijing, and ATP Masters Cup in 2019.
Zverev Looking to Bounce Back After Loss to De Minaur
It looked smooth sailing after Zverev won the first set against local boy De Minaur. But he struggled with the persistent pressure of the Australian and ended up losing the match in three sets. The German won’t have to deal with a strong crowd supporting his opponent in this match, but he will have to be more consistent if he is give his team a vital victory.
2019 was a challenging year for the 22-year-old. He only won a single title at Geneva compared to a total of nine titles he won in the previous two years. He did end the season on a positive note after reaching the semi-finals at Beijing and finals at the Shanghai Masters.
Currently ranked number seven in the world, the German will be looking to find his rhythm before heading into the Australian Open. He reached the fourth round in Melbourne last year. With improved ranking this year will be hoping for a more favorable draw to progress further.

Just like his opponent, the 21-year-old Greek suffered a defeat in his first match of the cup. A straight-set loss to Denis Shapovalov of Canada came as a bit of a shock. The Greek looked less sharp compared to his opponent and lost crucial points during both the tiebreakers.
Tsitsipas would like to put that loss behind him and get back to the winning ways. It is a big year ahead of him where he will be looking to take the next step and potentially challenge for his maiden Grand Slam. He won three titles last year, including the year-end ATP Finals in London.
He also reached the semi-finals stage at three masters events. His best performance of 2019 came at the Australian Open, where he reached the semi-finals losing out to Rafael Nadal.
He recently said that he felt that he had the talent & ability to surpass Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer, and Novak Djokovic. It will be interesting to see if he can walk the talk this year, starting with the next match.
