Elina Svitolina v Danielle Collins Head to Head

This will be the first time ever that the sixth-ranked Svitolina will be playing Collins, ranked 29th, in a competitive match.

Svitolina Looking to Shrug off Title-Less 2019

For a player to win nine titles across 2017 and 2018 and to then not win a single one in 2019 would have been sorely disappointing on paper. However, Svitolina can probably be proud of how she did other than that worry.

There were semifinal appearances in Indian Wells, where she went down to Bianca Andreescu, Wimbledon where Simona Halep crushed her en route the title and then again at the US Open where she went down to Serena Williams. Add a quarterfinal at the Australian Open and the world number six had her best showing at three of the four Grand Slams last year.

Svitolina then ended the season with a showing in the final of the WTA Finals, and it would have been an excellent to round off the year but for the presence of Ash Barty. Barty romped home to a straight-set win and ensured Svitolina ended the year with bitter-sweet memories.

Hawaii Winner Collins Aiming to Shrug off Poor Finish

It wasn’t the best of finishes to the 2019 for Danielle Collins, who went on a three-match losing streak and did not win two matches in a row since her third round presence at Wimbledon. That prompted her to play at the Naples ITF competition where she crashed out in straight sets in the quarterfinal.

This was followed by an invite to the Hawaii Exhibition competition where she won her opener against Yanina Wickmayer before Angelique Kerber retired from their match due to an injury.

What Collins would like to take heart from will be her time at the Australian Open series last year. She was a qualifier at the Sydney International but more vitally stunned the world and Kerber en route making it to the semifinals. There were third round appearances at Indian Wells and Miami but the season didn’t go as planned after that.

Elina Svitolina v Danielle Collins Predictions & Tips

Svitolina starts favourite but Collins could prove to be a slippery customer as she looks to kick off the poor finish to the previous year. Collins has had a decent track record against top 10 players, having beaten Venus Williams, Victoria Azarenka, Kerber and Caroline Wozniacki in the past.

Tip: Svitolina to win in three sets: 3/1 (Click here to get these odds with bet365)
